F. Scott Fitzgerald often spent time at Asheville’s Grove Park Inn and many other inns in the Western Carolinas.

Outdoor Adventure

Each season brings a new adventure in Western North Carolina. During the winter months, ice-skating, snow tubing, skiing and snow boarding are so popular that there are seven resorts devoted to winter sports across the mountain region.

Our mild seasons make most activities accessible throughout the year. Our hiking trails put on a new show with every season The tender new green leaves and wildflowers of spring. The lush undergrowth and heavy canopy of trees in summer. The vibrant kaleidoscope of colors in autumn. And the stark beauty of bare branches against a bright blue sky in winter.

Spring through fall you’ll want to try it all: whitewater rafting and kayaking, fly fishing, camping, backpacking, mountain biking and bird watching. A simple walk outside can always be a thing of beauty in this naturally gifted area of the country.
